I read this book as part of The Reading Gateway facebook reading challenge for the month of May. The theme for May is mystery and The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie fit the theme. Young Flavia, 11 years old to be exact, is full of sophistication and smarts when it comes to solving the mysterious death of a stranger.
There were some slow spots in the book, especially when it came to the relationship between Flavia and her older sisters. I am not sure if the author just wanted the reader to understand the background of the main character or just add a subplot to the mix. All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and would let my 11 year old daughter read this book as it was not too scary but it did have adventure and intrigue.
(Disclaimer: I was not asked to give my opinion on this book nor was I compensated in any way.)
