Next Monday, July 4th, the kids will be starting their 2016/2017 homeschool year. Why is the new school year starting on Independence Day? A few reasons: 1) It's a Monday, 2) I'll be home that day and 3) A great way to celebrate the educational freedom of Homeschooling!
Here is the schedule that I have planned for the year: 6 weeks on, 1 week off ; this schedule will run from July to the week of Thanksgiving. The kids will have a little over a month break between Thanksgiving week and New Years. When the kids start back up in January, the schedule will change to 5 weeks on, 1 week off. This schedule will run until the end of April/beginning of May.
The subjects that have been agreed upon between the kids and myself are:
Scriptures: The kids have asked to read from the Bible this year.
1/2 hour reading each day
Math: Life of Fred: Pre-Algebra with Biology
Language Arts: Life of Fred: Australia
Science: Apologia: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day (Samantha), Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day (Nickolas). Once the kids complete these books, Samantha has asked to study Botany and Nick has asked to study Chemistry.
History: Mystery of History Volume 2 and KrisAnne Hall DVD about the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.
Vocabulary: the kids will be using the 1828 Dictionary
The kids will also be learning Home Economics - This will help them with life skills
Last year the kids tried foreign languages and that didn't last very long. They have no interest in this area and I am not going to push it unless they absolutely want to learn a foreign language.
Now it is time for me to get everything pulled together to be ready for smiling faces on July 4th.
