March 31st...Already???

I can't believe today is the last day of March!  Some fun and interesting things have happened this month...let's take a look back:

The beginning of the month started out alright...no lion ;) Except we now have a few more family members to look after.  On March 11th, my kids and I purchased 6 chicks and 4 ducks.  These little creatures were 4 days old when we got them and are now 3 weeks and 2 days old.  Also, on March 20th, early in the morning hours, we had a chick hatch under her broody mama, Charlotte.  We now have a total of 20 birds....15 hens, 1 rooster, and 4 ducks (one is a drake). Around August, we will have eggs coming out of our ears.

The kids had their spring break last week and they spent it being sick.  They are doing much better now.  This week, Nick and Sam started their final 5 weeks of the 2015/2016 homeschool year and they are looking forward to summer break :)

On Monday, we ended up going to RI for a very brief visit to an Oral Surgeon for my husband.  He is recovering from surgery and is feeling pretty darn good.

In closing, March was an interesting month of learning, fun, sickness and strange spring weather (a little bit of everything)...

13 Hours by Mitchell Zuckoff with the Annex Security Team

"On the night of September 11, 2012, terrorists attacked the US State Department Special Mission Compound and a nearby CIA station called the Annex in Benghazi, Libya.  A team of six American security operators fought to repel the attackers and protect the Americans stationed there.  Those men - Mark "Oz" Geist, Kris "Tanto" Paronto, John "Tig" Tiegen, Jack Silva, Dave "D.B." Benton, and Tyrone "Rone" Woods - went beyond the call of duty, performing extraordinary acts of courage and heroism, to avert tragedy on a much larger scale.  This is their personal account, never before told, of what happened during the thirteen hours of that now infamous attack.
13 HOURS sets the record straight on what happened during a night that has been shrouded in mystery and controversy.  This riveting book takes readers into the action-packed story of heroes who laid their lives on the line for one another, for their countrymen, and for their country." (taken from the back cover)

When I first heard about the attack that took place on September 11, 2012, I wanted to know the truth of what happened. My gut was telling me that this attack was not a last minute protest of a youtube video...as several news broadcasts (and one Secretary of State) had eluded to.  13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi  is a must read for everyone.  This book takes you directly to the before, during and after of the siege.  Mitchell Zuckoff with the Annex Security Team gives the a reader an eye-opening, detailed account of what truly happened September 11th and 12th of September 2012.

(disclaimer:  I bought this book because I wanted to know what happened on Sept. 11, 2012.  I was not asked by the author to provide an opinion.)

1913 by Oliver DeMille

The Year We Failed America...And How to Recover Her for GOOD.
Three critical events in 1913, followed by a corresponding event in 1936, together struck a resounding blow to America's freedom.  In fact, they triggered the greatest Turning Point away from freedom in modern times.
What were these dangerous events?  Why do so few American citizens know about them - especially since they dramatically and negatively impact every detail of their lives?  Most importantly, how can their effects be reversed and freedom restored?
1913 answers these questions and more.  This is not a doomsday book for alarmists, but rather an optimistic action guide for thoughtful, dedicated freedom-lovers.  DeMille provides three clear, detailed, and practical solutions you can implement to restore America's freedom and revitalize her prosperity.
A new Turning Point of Freedom is desperately needed.  And reading this book will propel you to the front lines of that shift.  (Taken from the back cover of the book)

This book is very profound and eye-opening.  I had my pen in my hand as I read this book and I underlined quite a bit of information.  I will be using this book in our homeschool as a reference for when we learn about American History/U.S. Government/U.S. Constitution.  I highly recommend this book for all to read.  Everyone should know what happened back in 1913 and 1936!

(Disclaimer:  I bought this book for my own personal library and my opinions are my own.  The author of this book did not ask me for the above review)

Easter Sunday

(Not sure where I got this picture, but the message is perfect)

Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

Good Friday

(picture from my friend, Lisa Deegan's facebook page)

42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

44 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.

45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.

46 ¶And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.

Luke 22:8-20

Growing up in the Protestant religion, the celebration of Easter began with Lent (representing 40 days/nights in the wilderness...resisting temptation), Palm Sunday (Sunday prior to Easter when Jesus came to Jerusalem) and then Holy Week...Maundy Thursday (Last Supper), Good Friday (Crucifixion) and finally Easter (Resurrection)...

The below scripture is about the Last Supper...where Jesus institutes the sacrament:

And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.
And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.
11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
19 ¶And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

And Exhale

The last couple of months (Jan until yesterday) have been pretty hectic, chaotic at times and a bit stressful.  Our town just finished up Town Meeting (2016 town vote of new elected officers and warrant articles) and now I can exhale...It is finally over...until it begins all over again in the late fall/early winter.

Promises for Prayer

"Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good; yea, when thou liest down at night lie down unto the Lord, that he may watch over you in your sleep; and when thou risest in the morning let thy heart be full of thanks unto God:  and if ye do these things, ye shall be lifted up at the last day." ~ Alma 37:37
