Well....I can honestly say that I didn't work on some of my goals this month.  Why?  Too tired, never got around to working on them, did other things, etc.  In other words, too many excuses and not enough determination.

My Goals:

Read Scriptures Daily:  I didn't read them everyday, but I did read them.  Reading mostly takes place during the evening hours and on the weekends.  Sometimes I read a few chapters at a time and only a chapter other times.

Keep a Journal:  I did not write once in my journal this month.

Work on Stress and Anxiety:  Wasn't as stressed this month.  The only time anxiety really hit was on meeting nights and a few other times during February.  I would say that February was a good month.

New Interests:  Didn't work on any.

Crochet:  Never picked up a hook.

Blog More:  11 posts this month

Family Goals:

Better Eating Habits:   A little bit better this month.  Samantha has actually fixed dinner a couple of times and it was very good.  (Chicken and Rice with vegetables).  We had healthy meals  and not so healthy meals but it seems to be swinging more to the healthy side.

Outdoor Activities:  Too cold for most of the month.  Nick actually went outside almost everyday this past week.

Read Scriptures Together:  We don't read as a family, but we do read individually.

Clean House:  Much better this month.  Sam attacked the bedroom and you can actually see the floor :)

Work on Construction of House:  This is on hold until the weather breaks.

What goals will be met and what will not in March?  I'll let you know in a month.

Sunday Scriptures (on Monday)

Due to the snowy weather we have had lately....well every weekend for the past 4 weeks...we have stayed home from church.  Until yesterday!!!  It wasn't snowing and the roads were so-so, especially here in town.  It felt really good to get back to church.  Below are a couple of scriptures that were quoted from talks during Sacrament Meeting:

"Having faith on the Lord; having a hope that ye shall receive eternal life; having the love of God always in your hearts, that ye may be lifted up at the last day and enter into his rest." ~ Alma 13:29

"And now, my sons, remember , remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when  the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build  they cannot fail." ~ Helaman 5:12

Sweet Music

Have you ever heard of 'The Piano Guys'?  Well, if you haven't, you are missing out.  I was introduced to them a couple of years ago and fell in love with their music.  So have my children :)

The above video is one of my favorites.  Check out the Piano Guys on YouTube or even go buy one of their CD's.  Enjoy :)

Snowed in...again

I wonder if we will ever get to church this year!  With the kids and I having the nasty cold and the crazy winter weather we are having, church seems to have been put on the back burner.  Today is the 3rd snow Sunday in a row.  Ever since I had a spin-out, I have not been wanting to drive on snow covered roads.  I feel I am safer off the roads than trying to drive them.  Scott agrees with me.  He has been a great sport in being my chauffeur when I need to get to the store or have other errands to do.  I have more confidence with his driving abilities and feel safer with him behind the wheel.

Happy Sunday to all!  Stay safe wherever you are :)

Not a Typical Saturday

A typical Saturday for our household is the following:  Grocery Shopping, Library Visits, Other Errands and Clean House.  Today was not a typical Saturday.  Why?  Well our town had its annual deliberative session.  This is a time for all town residents who are registered voters to come together to deliberate and possibly amend warrant articles that will be on the Ballot for the March vote.  This year's warrant has 36 articles.  To say that everything went smooth and orderly would be incorrect.  There was a lot of grandstanding, 'points of order', emotions, a lot of wasted time on most of the articles, and craziness.  The meeting started at 9am and ended at 7:15pm.  We left at 5:30pm (8 1/2 hour mark).

While Scott and I were in the session, Nick and Sam volunteered to help with the Recreation Committee in the kitchen.  They helped to sell food and drinks.  They worked well with each other and with those on the Committee.   They got a first glimpse on how to run a food business.   A lot of washing hands and keeping the dining area clean.

If you ever want to find out who the people are that live in your town, have a deliberative session.

Homeschool Update

It has been a while since I last blogged about homeschool and what the kids have been working on.  With some sickness in the house, there were a few days that books were not opened.  Here is what Nick and Sam have been working on/learning about:
  • Copy Work - Cursive on handouts and copy work from their science journals
  • Science - Both Nick and Sam have completed the first three lessons in their books.  Nick is learning about Flying Creatures and Sam is learning about Land Animals.
  • Writing - So far, I have not had any complaints from the kids regarding 'Jump-In'.  A very good writing curriculum that I feel was a good choice.  The kids are working on their assignments independently during the day and I will help them at night after work.
  • Math - Life of Fred: Fractions, so far, has been very good.  The kids just took their 2nd Bridge Review and are now able to move on to Chapter 11.  So thankful for Life of Fred!
  • Book of Mormon - Each day the kids read a chapter or half a chapter from the Book of Mormon.
  • Spelling - There have been a few complaints but I think they have been worked out.  Nick was having a difficult time spelling a few words but when I advised him to say the word out loud and slowly, he could hear how the word is spelled.  It worked!
  • History - Just about finished with Qtr 2 in MOH, Vol 1.  I have a feeling that this will carry over to the new year.  I don't think we will finish volume 1 by the end of April.
  • Reading - I love seeing the kids read books, especially chapter books.  Nick read the first Harry Potter book and is now working on the 2nd one.  Sam started reading 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens but found it to be difficult for her. Now she is reading the first Harry Potter book.
That's what Nick and Sam have been up to.
Thanks for stopping by :)

Grandpa Quinn

It has been so long since I last heard your voice, kissed your cheek or was embraced by your loving arms.  You used to call me your 'little angel'.  I am so thankful that you my angel looking over me and cheering me on.  These last 26 years have been filled with ups and downs, joys and heartbreaks, stress and calm.  O how I wish my children could have met you and known you.  They only know you through me.  This is what I tell them about you...

God -fearing
Family man
Loved grandma with all his heart
Sings with joy
Plays the piano like no other...could not read music but could play by ear
Gargled everyday with Listerine -
Always whistling a different tune
Joyful laugh
Would stay up with me to watch the end of Sound of Music
Loved to take walks
Spoiled his grandchildren with love, not material things
Irish all the way
My Hero

I love and miss you Grandpa.

It has been very cold here in the northeast.  Below zero temps in the morning, in fact it was -15 yesterday at 8am when I left for work.  This morning, I didn't even look at the temps.  Sitting in my office, as I am making this post, my hands are freezing to the point that all the scars from Blackie are turning purple.  That is cold!!!

Speaking of cold...both Nick and Sam are battling another one.  They are getting better each day.  Just wish we could air out the house without freezing....oh it would be nice to see the temps in the 30's again.

Hello February!!!

What a way to start the month...SNOW, SNOW and more SNOW!!! (good for the wells)
I don't think Mr. Groundhog will be seeing his shadow today, but spring is just around the corner.
