2013 Gratitude Challenge - November 24 and 25

Yesterday, during a windstorm, a couple of pine trees fell onto our power/phone lines.  The tree that fell onto the power line was smoldering, flaming and causing electrical arches.  It was very interesting to watch.  Not knowing what to do, my husband called the fire department and power company to report the incident.  The fire department came but could not do anything until the power company shuts down the power line.  Unbeknownst to us, many houses in our state (NH) were without power due to the same storm.  So, after staying for about 4 hours, the fire department left but told us to call them if a good fire starts.
The tree that hit the power line continued to smolder, flame and cause electric arches up until the top portion of the tree fell off due to the smoldering and flames.  This tree then fell to the second line and is still there.  The other tree that fell onto the phone line is still there.  We just got a call from the power company and they should be here pretty soon.  Others who lost power needed to be worked on first, which I completely understand.  Once the power company gets here, I will feel better when the trees are down on the ground and the lines (power and phone) are back to normal.

I am thankful for the power line workers and emergency responders who work in rough weather conditions to help those in need.  These guys and gals are away from their families making sure others are warm and safe.  I can't thank them enough not their families.  May God bless them all.

What are you thankful for?  Please visit Quiet Pandemonium to see what others are thankful for.
