Looking Back on Week 15

Another productive week in the Smith household.  A lot of fun outdoor activity too!

The kids did 4 lessons in Life of Fred-Edgewood.  They have about 7 more lessons before going onto the next book (i guess i should order it soon).  They sure do love Fred and so do I.

I read them a few chapters from Stories of America and learned a bit about the French and Indian War and a brief intro into the life of George Washington before he became the General of the Revolutionary War.

Both kids read many books and had their daily computer time and have found some fun programs to watch.  Nick found 'Good Eats', which he loves because he learns something interesting every time he watches the show.  Sam found another cooking show called 'Nerdy Nummies'.  I think she likes it because it is all about desserts and the host of the show is very bubbly and funny to watch.

Both Nick and Sam helped in the kitchen with meal preparation.  They both made corn muffins on two separate occasions.  Sam started prepping a cake and daddy finished by making sure the oven was set correctly and placed and removed the cake from the oven too.  Both of the kids decorated the cake to their heart's content.  It is actually the birthday cake for all three of them (Scott, Nick and Sam are celebrating their birthdays this weekend)

The kids played a lot outside this week.  They played in fresh dirt that was brought to us about 15 dump-truck loads in one day.  I don't know what it is about dirt mounds and kids, but the imaginations have been flowing most of the week.

We hiked onto our adjacent property to mark off a place for our little retirement home. Nick had a lot of fun pushing over little dead trees and noticed a lot of moss in areas where the sun doesn't shine very well.  He really enjoys hiking through the woods and loves exploring.    We have a logger removing trees right now to make a roughed in drive-way and will have him remove more trees within the next month or so.  Plans for building the 'little house in the woods' are a ways off, but we figured we could use the money now to help finish the house we are currently building.

Tomorrow we are planning on going to the library and then later on our plans are to go apple picking at a local orchard.

Have a great weekend :)
